Crocodile is a tall man with a wide chest, broad shoulders, muscular arms and legs, and a thick neck. He has pale skin and nape-length black hair, which is kept neatly slicked back, though strands tend to fall in front of his face during battles. Crocodile has various battle wounds, most notably a long-stitched scar at the bridge of his nose that stretches across his face and a large hook made from a tough gold alloy in place of his left hand. His eyes are deep-set and heavy-lidded, and his thin eyebrows are characteristically drawn upward in the middle. This gives his usual facial expression a feeling of condescension and distrust. Crocodile speaks with a deep, relaxed voice, and he is usually seen smoking a thick cigar produced by his company.Clothing: His theme of dress is meant to convey the image of an Italian mafia boss. Crocodile wore a bright orange, black-striped button up vest over a long-sleeve peach shirt, along with a blue scarf, dark brown suit pants, and polished black shoes with gold buckles. He also wore a long, thick, dark pelted fur coat over his shoulders.After he was incarcerated at Impel Down, he wore a striped prisoner uniform, like most other prisoners, but was somehow permitted to keep his gold hook. After joining Luffy and Jinbe on their mission to save Ace, he obtained a full change of clothes from the supplies of Newkama Land and thereafter wore a black shirt, a green scarf, dark grey slacks, and a black overcoat with tan fur trim. After the Summit War of Marineford, he is seen in attire that greatly resembles the one from the Alabasta Kingdom, consisting of a vest over a plain shirt, a scarf around his neck, suit pants, elegant shoes, and a fur coat draped around his shoulders.In all his appearances, he wears a single gold hoop earring in his right ear, and he usually has several golden rings with different colored gemstones on every finger except the ring finger. One of such rings, a gold ring with a ruby inlaid upon it, belonged to his mother.

Born Elia Lune Conti to Lord Gian Carlo and Lady Francesca Conti, Crocodile had a relatively easy life for the first ten years. The Island of Carrozze was home to him, to the Conti royal family. Elio would be the only child Gian Carlo and Francesca would have, which was perfectly fine by them. He was all they wanted, all they could have ever dreamed of. Of course, then, Elio would wear dresses and play pretend to be a princess in distress with his guards and lady in waiting.A Meeting
When Elio was five years old, two men came to visit the island. Men sent by the World Government to threaten Lord Gian Carlo for his lack of export regarding the mines on the island. There was only so much that could be mined in regards to emeralds before the ground grew unstable. The real threat was directed towards Francesca, who held a dangerous secret that not even her husband knew:She had the plans for a Weapon. The world government wanted these plans. She would take them to grave with her.Pirates?
When Elio was seven years old, he was training to use a bow and arrow under the tutelage of Penelope, a giantess who his father had hired to train Elio in how to protect himself. He was learning quickly; taking easy to the different forms of combat taught to him, as well as the weaponry. However, during one such outing, things would go wrong:Pirates had found them- later on, to be revealed that they had been sent by the World Government in an assassination plot.Elio was taken by one of the guards his father had grown up with, Scorpion, to where his mother was. Together, they hid via a hidden passage way that would lead them to the middle of the forest.The pirates were killed, though the trouble now weighed upon the family. How long until something like this happened again?Not long at all.Buster Call
It happened during the Winter Solstice Celebration, when Elio was ten years old. Having fallen asleep in the library after a day and evening full of celebration and merry making, Elio woke to the sound of footsteps crunching on snow, and men in black creeping along the halls. The World Government had sent Cipher Pol to take care of the Conti family, and in doing so, slaughtered any and every person within the halls of the castle.Elio managed to escape by the skin of his teeth thanks to Scorpion and Viper- and an old woman with a ship, who would take him from the island before the forests and vineyards were set aflame. They watched, Elio sobbing as his home, his life, went up in flames.He was presumed dead.

Blank period
For six years, Elio lived on a small island in the South Blue, working odd jobs. A war orphan, that’s what he was. What war? It depends on who asked. Either way, he was an orphan, and he was good at manual labor, and was well read. No one asked questions, and he gave no answers.It should be noted during this time that Elio had cut his hair short, began binding his chest, and deepening his voice to appear as a teenaged boy. This is how he was found by Monkey D. Dragon- a boy with short black hair, angry gold eyes, and a sharp tongue. Dragon had been followed by marines, though- and the two narrowly escaped the island. Elio would spend the following years working alongside Dragon as the Revolutionary Army began to bloom.The Original Sandman
Elio would find the Sand-Sand fruit when he was eighteen. Already having a thorough knowledge of Devil Fruits and the gifts they grant, he ate it- thus, the abilities of the Sand-Sand fruit began. He was a good weapon to have around, then; Dragon would fight against Elio, helping him learn how to use his Devil Fruit. In a way, he owes Dragon that much- for teaching him in those first years.At twenty-four, Elio got too cocky. He decided to launch an attack against one of the strongest men in the sea- Whitebeard. A mistake, as before Elio was even able to land a solid attack, Whitebeard had struck out-Taking Elio’s left arm from mid-forearm, down- and the now-infamous scar that crosses his face. Whitebeard told Elio to go home before he dies, and to come back and fight him again when he “Isn’t afraid of being the man he claims to be.”He found a doctor who was able to handle the injuries, and laid low for months as he healed. When he returned to the Revolutionary Army, he had a single request of Ivankov:Surgery.Ivankov approved this; unlike the usage of their Devil Fruit, Elio wished for this to be a permanent state- something that could never be reversed. And so, Iva performed the surgery, and Elio was “reborn” as Sir Crocodile. After three months, he parted ways with the Revolutionary Army, and took to the seas to make a name for himself.A businessman, a pirate, a Warlord… Crocodile is many things, it seems.   TEMPERAMENT    Crocodile is a seasoned, cunning and business-savvy pirate who is self-assured and confident in himself and his own abilities, as evidenced by his former title as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea that he had held on for years. He enjoys toying with weaker opponents, often grinning and laughing smugly during battle. However, due to his overconfidence, he seriously underestimated Luffy's willpower, and this eventually led to his defeat. He is a sophisticated mastermind who is well seasoned in the art of wooing the public eye to his favor. Crocodile callously and inhumanly orchestrated the destruction of several communities, with the intent of inciting strife that would eventually lead into a bloody civil war.Willingness to kill coupled with a pitiless nature; he does not think twice about sentencing another person to death. Crocodile told Nico Robin that he had killed everyone who had ever insulted him. By his own admission, Crocodile is not always rational.Habit of taunting others, frequently using the word "worthless" to refer to the desperate struggles of his enemies. Crocodile is known to belittle his foes, generally implying that they are far inferior to him, whether he is fighting a rookie or a fellow Warlord (namely Donquixote Doflamingo, who had a former bounty almost 300,000,000 higher than his own). Crocodile's capacity for looking down on others is so high that he even told Dracule Mihawk, the World's Strongest Swordsman, to "watch himself".In battle, Crocodile shows a complete lack of fear and doubt, although this trait was broken down a bit during his third battle with Luffy. He usually appears to be very composed and fearless, even when facing fearsome opponents like Whitebeard, Dracule Mihawk, or Akainu. If Crocodile is extremely angry or annoyed with his victim, he will rarely kill them outright, instead leaving them to suffer as they slowly die. This proved to be a bad habit, which ultimately led to his defeat.Crocodile has displayed an extremely cynical and patronizing attitude, showing complete disregard to the romantic pirate lifestyle and stating that all the values that the status of Pirate King had once symbolized were now worthless to him. Crocodile valued military power above popularity, renown, and treasure, believing that only ignorant fools declare their grandiose dreams. He referred to having trust and faith in others as an idiotic thing to do several times during the Alabasta Arc.Shown to almost completely lack any code of honor. Extremely pragmatic to the point of treachery, Crocodile once offered a sadistic choice to Vivi, only to later reveal that it would not matter in the end, making any effort on her part meaningless. One of the few vestiges of honor he ever displayed was in his third battle with Luffy, during which he stated that Luffy deserved an honorable death from his venomous hook. Due to the situation at the time of battle, this could be seen as more an ironic act of cruelty than honor, but he did seem to regard the use of his rarely seen poison hook as a tribute to Luffy's tenacity. As another example of his distorted sense of honor, after Whitebeard had been injured by Squard, Crocodile refused to fight him in that weakened state. In fact, he became furious at Whitebeard's loss of strength out of pride, having been defeated by the Emperor in the past.Crocodile has some emotional concern for some of his subordinates- or, at least, the ones that he believes deserve this concern. Notably, Bon Clay, Daz Bones, and Nico Robin. He regrets having to kill Robin; if she hadn’t betrayed his trust, he would never have harmed her. He did love her in his own way, after all. He has no qualms about killing the other members of Baroque Works if they fail or betray him, having little tolerance for anything that may threaten the outcome of his plans. He showed no true attachment, affection, or trust toward these people and viewed them only as pawns. Despite all this, Crocodile is very loyal to Daz Bones. He has a very good relationship with Mr. 1, having gone out of his way to rescue his former subordinate [lover] from his cell. Daz in return is very loyal to his boss, even getting angry if someone disrespects him.After being defeated by Luffy and being stripped of his Warlord title, Crocodile lost interest in the outside world. He refused to escape with the rest of his subordinates during the attempted (and failed) breakout of Impel Down. Upon his capture, he disregarded the notion of escaping simply because he did not feel like it, Similarly, he smiled at the news that he would be sent to Impel Down and seemed apathetic during his imprisonment. Crocodile was the only Impel Down inmate who appeared to be enjoying himself; he was initially seen smiling and mocking his fellow prisoners. He claimed that he was only in Impel Down because he chose to stay, an assertion well in line with his overly condescending demeanor. His only apparent motivation to leave Impel Down was the chance to enact revenge against Whitebeard. Following the war, Crocodile seemed eager to journey to the New World with Mr. 1, having reignited his ambitious side once more.Crocodile has mellowed out since his defeat in Alabasta, at least to some degree. He is more willing to assist others, having offered to aid Luffy escape from Impel Down, and he nonchalantly accepted help from others as well. He may not be as heartless as he lets on. During the war, he went beyond his personal agenda several times to save his allies' lives. He saved Ace's life and protected Mr. 1 and Luffy from Mihawk. He even prevented Akainu from cornering Luffy and Jinbe as they desperately tried to escape the scene of the battle. Nevertheless, he claimed that he only saved them because if he had not, the Marines would feel victorious, and that prospect irritated him.

  POWERS / ABILITIES   
He defeated Luffy no less than twice before his eventual defeat. In fact, if not for his good luck and the help he received from several people, Luffy would have been killed in all three battles: he was impaled (and then rescued by Nico Robin), dehydrated (and then revived by his own Water Water Pistol), and poisoned (and then received the antidote from Robin). Moreover, if Luffy's blood had not served as a way to nullify Crocodile's Logia-Type defense, and if Robin had not supplied Luffy with the antidote to his hook's poison, the third battle would have effectively favored Crocodile as well.INTELLIGENCE: ●●●●●
Crocodile is extremely intelligent and cunning, which is apparent from his ability to lead Baroque Works while keeping the World Government completely in the dark about what he was doing and making himself out to be a hero in the eyes of the people. He is also skilled at crafting near-flawless plans and noticing things that most other people would not. His intelligence and leadership are acknowledged by the Marines and recognized as two of his most dangerous traits, alongside his Logia abilities.He is known to deduce a correct conclusion based on very little information. He managed to sabotage the king's reputation among the citizens by secretly importing rain-producing dust into the capital during a period of major regional drought, then having it "accidentally" discovered on route, inciting the threat of civil war and thereby drawing attention away from his own shady machinations. He managed to successfully maintain control over all operations within "Baroque Works" over a period of years while keeping his true identity as a Warlord hidden from everyone except Nico Robin.Strove to attain a high level of respect and prestige among the citizens of Alabasta as their "savior" by brutally dispatching any would-be invaders or pirates. An expert liar and manipulator, he was able to trick Vivi into wasting time looking for a key that was fake all along and managed to make Luffy drop his guard by targeting Yuba with a sandstorm, after learning of Luffy's friendship with Toto. During the events of Operation Utopia, Crocodile demonstrated great foresight in his attempt to blow up Alubarna, having installed a backup mechanism to fire a bomb on the capital in case the main method failed and placing two of his agents to protect it in the possibility it was found.In addition, aside from being heavily experienced thanks to his many years as a pirate, he seems to have a better understanding of Devil Fruits than most people, as evidenced by his mastery of his Logia-type powers. He also revealed that the Jailer Beasts were actually "Awakened" Zoan fruit users at a time when no one around him had even realized that they were even Devil Fruit users.PHYSICAL ABILITIES ●●●●●
In addition to his powers being of the Logia-type, allowing him to turn into sand to avoid injuries, Crocodile has an enormous amount of physical stamina, durability, pain tolerance, resilience and endurance, coupled with remarkable speed and reflexes. He is also one of the few people known to tolerate getting "baptized" in boiling water in Impel Down without flinching, which is considered an impressive feat. He could effortlessly withstand the extreme temperatures of Levels 3 (where the heat is sufficient to roast a bird alive), 4 (which is several times hotter than Level 3) and 5 (a room operating at sub-zero temperatures) of Impel Down.Crocodile also possesses great physical strength, first demonstrated when he carried off the dead bodies of an entire pirate crew (namely Puppu's) after dehydrating them with his Devil Fruit powers. He was able to block Doflamingo kick, without too many complications (his shock created a wave strong enough to push away the nearby marines). He even managed to intercept and parry Mihawk's two-handed slash with just his hook.DEVIL FRUIT
Crocodile ate the Suna Suna no Mi, a Logia-type Devil Fruit that allows him to create, control, and transform his body into sand. This ability allows him to easily re-form his body after most attacks.While in a desert/sandy area, his powers make him nearly invincible. Crocodile has the ability to create huge sandstorms, make multiple bladed weapons out of sand, and create quicksand (given the presence of a nearby underground waterway). He can also create powerful sandstorms that grow in power until even Crocodile himself cannot stop them.He can absorb all the moisture out of any object, living or non-living, by touching it with his right hand. This ability allows him to utterly destroy his surroundings, killing and mummifying any biological substances via dehydration. This application does not work on metallic substances, though. However, if moisture comes into contact with his body, it immediately reverts to solid form and cannot transform.WEAPONS
- HOOK: Crocodile is also formidable in hand-to-hand combat using a hook. He fought using only his hook for most of his third match with Luffy, only resorting to his Devil Fruit powers when he finally accepted that things weren't going in his favor. His hook is made mostly out of an extremely tough and resilient gold alloy, which makes it resistant to corrosion. Its durability was shown to be especially impressive when it took no visible damage from Mihawk's Yoru as Crocodile defended Luffy from an attack.The gold part of the hook is hollow and can be removed to expose a poisonous hook hidden inside. This porous secondary hook releases a powerful scorpion venom, which is strong enough to melt through rock and kill anyone with the effect of a single slash.In the unlikely event that the hook becomes damaged, there is a knife hidden underneath that can be ejected and used in its place. In a pinch, the very wide base of the hook can also serve as an improvised mace-like weapon, as shown when Crocodile used its blunt force to smash Luffy into a wall.During his incarceration in both a regular prison and Impel Down, Crocodile was permitted to keep his formidable hook.

This is Crocodile’s HOME VERSE. Regardless of the verse, his history does not change- this is something that I have worked to craft for the past few months and I do promise to write up a better summarization of his history rather than making y’all read an 11k ( and growing ) piece [but if you want to here’s the link hehe].Crocodile started Baroque Works when he was in his mid-thirties. It’s prospered for years, growing in size with each passing year. Twelve years prior to canon, a boy comes to him, begging for a chance to work with him. This boy was Fujihara Jun’Ichi, freshly nineteen & with an anger Crocodile found refreshing. He allowed it; a little guard snake ( and perhaps more, later on ). Things continue to progress; enter Nico Robin [ specifically my own Robin, @/rascvetalo-cvece ]. Angry, full of hatred and a hunger for knowledge- and knowing of her ability- he extended a hand. Her skills, for his protection.At first, it was purely a working relationship. However, over time, the two came to care for one another, both being the sole survivors of Buster Calls in their childhood, struggling to survive in a world that wanted them dead. They found solace in one another for three and a half years.Crocodile noticed her distance, though he thought nothing of it. This was important, his goal was important. Though his feelings for Robin were genuine, one of the very few people whom he had bared his soul to, her betrayal cut deep. And that… Well, he couldn’t allow that to stand. He purposefully missed her heart and spinal column to give her a chance to survive.And survive, she did.From there, the events are relatively close to canon, as of the end of Sabaody, and into the Timeskip.

  UPON THE WATER; UPON THE LAND    CLOSED. 
This is a CLOSED VERSE that takes place within a timeline that myself and my partner have created. Within it, the canon timeline for ONE PIECE has been extended by a few years, based on a more realistic sea-faring timeline. In regards to Sir Crocodile’s story, specifically:Crocodile started Baroque Works when he was in his mid-thirties. It’s prospered for years, growing in size with each passing year. Twelve years prior to canon, a boy comes to him, begging for a chance to work with him. This boy was Fujihara Jun’Ichi, freshly nineteen & with an anger Crocodile found refreshing. He allowed it; a little guard snake ( and perhaps more, later on ). Things continue to progress; enter Nico Robin [ specifically my own Robin, @/naviculariis ]. Angry, full of hatred and a hunger for knowledge- and knowing of her ability- he extended a hand. Her skills, for his protection.They found solace in one another for a little over a year before they were joined by Faustus Kareka after having learned of his- and his sister’s- specific skill set. While that was what interested him first, what caused him to make the offer to his parents was knowing who else had shown interest- Donquixote Doflamingo. Thus, he bought his freedom and brought him into both Baroque Works and their personal lives, after struggling for nearly six months to break through and get to know him.Funny what happens when you think you want to die. ( Keeping this vague because oh the trigger warnings run wild right here. TLDR: Faust wanted to Die, Crocodile felt responsible, Faust did everything he could TO try to die, his brain buddy/inner nokk said NAH, and thus the blooming of a beautiful relationship began as Crocodile literally carried him home from the COAST OF ALABASTA all the way to Rain Dinners, soaking wet with sea water, and then cleaned him, dressed him, and stayed with him while he slept. ( Please Note: This Is Not An Abusive Relationship, This Is Not Stockholm Syndrome, there was a lot more that went into it than this brief blurb I promise you but that would make this document at least 10 pages long and no one wants that. )A year and a half before the events of the series, Crocodile stumbles upon a woman named Teddy- a Gravedigger variant who was lost in the deserts of Alabasta. Taking pity, he took her in- and soon found out that she would become his protege due to her talent of manipulating sand in a way similar to himself. Teddy was akin to an adoptive daughter. He still views her in such a manner.Robin, Crocodile, and Faust were all involved with one another for over a year, though Robin began to distance herself from Crocodile after Faust’s arrival due to her own missions taking precedence- and the study of the Poneglyphs. She would continue to grow distant as she learned of Crocodile’s true intentions, something that Faust felt torn over, though Crocodile continued to plot and plan.Crocodile noticed her distance, though he thought nothing of it. This was important, his goal was important. Though his feelings for Robin were genuine, one of the very few people whom he had bared his soul to, her betrayal cut deep. And that… Well, he couldn’t allow that to stand. He purposefully missed her heart and spinal column to give her a chance to survive.And survive, she did. Robin and Faust both escaped, joining the Straw Hats, alongside another new member: Fujihara Suma, a gunner and explosives specialist who had tried (and failed) to pickpocket Sanji.Crocodile is arrested. For several months, he hears nothing from Faust. Crocodile doesn’t suffer in Impel; he’s been through far worse, and really- the heat could never truly bother him ( temperatures in general don’t, really ). He even made a few of the jailers his friends- and they smuggled in letters to him once Faust began to write.Faust leaves shortly after the ending of Enies Lobby due to failing health, rejoining with Crocodile’s crew and being welcomed by Crocodile’s left hand, who managed to avoid capture, Jun’Ichi.The remaining events up until the Time Skip are canon-compliant and do not change. Crocodile escapes post-Marineford, regroups with his beloved. Near the end of the timeskip, they are engaged after Faust proposed to Crocodile. He travels to Water 7 to witness the marriage of Teddy to Paulie.
